The exhibition Say No: Art, Activism, and Feminist Refusal will open at the Wardlaw Museum on 26 January and run until 11 May 2025.

The exhibition is being developed in collaboration with PhD candidates in the School of Art History.

Say No seeks to explore how contemporary artists have engaged with feminist histories, exploring the idea that refusal – the act of saying ‘no’ – is a powerful political form of feminist protest. This has been, and still is, enacted through creative practice in order to create and inspire action and change.

The exhibition will feature the works of various contemporary artists covering a range of fine arts, including tapestry, ceramic, sculpture, photography, and film. These artworks will be shown alongside archival material of feminist refusal from the 1960s and 1970s.
